Exhibitions and Collaborations
In her time designing for Paper Covers Rock, Rachel has held exhibitions of her work in various locations and been commissioned to produce designs for some fascinating projects.
Fieldwork
11th August – 30th September 2016
105 Fountainbridge, Edinburgh. EH3 9QG
In 2016, Rachel exhibited a collection of prints in Fieldwork, a beautiful café located just off Edinburgh’s Lothian Road. The collection of artwork sat perfectly alongside the rustic wooden furniture and exposed brickwork. The exhibition coincided with the busy and vibrant Edinburgh Festival.
Botany
30th March – 10th June 2018
5 Chatsworth Road, London. E5 0LH
Having been a stockist of the Paper Covers Rock greeting cards for many years, Angela Maynard, the owner of Botany, a concept lifestyle store and florist in East London, invited Rachel to put together a collection of artwork for an exhibition.
‘Into the Haze’ was a collection of work created in response to a three week visit to Japan taken in Spring 2017.
“The designs began to take shape very naturally on my return. My mind was full of all the beauty we had seen and the joy I felt discovering new and inspiring places each day. The attention to detail and thoughtful consideration in every aspect of Japanese design is astounding and yet it is presented with an effortless simplicity. I wanted to create pieces of work that captured the colour palette that emerged from my memories and photographs, as well as the feeling of calm that I experienced whilst gaining at insight into their wonderful way of life”.
Supermarket Sarah
In 2015, Sarah Bagner, aka Supermarket Sarah, invited Rachel to put together a Paper Covers Rock wall for her website. The concept was an online shop where customers could ‘click and buy’ products featured on wall spaces curated by different designers and makers.
As well as working with emerging talent, Supermarket Sarah has created spaces with a number of leading brands, including John Lewis and Monki, as well as a 30 foot high wall in Selfridges London’s concept store and a concession in their giftware department.
Collaborations
The Tuberose Studio, San Diego
‘Dutch’, a shop based in San Diego, was a long-standing stockist of the Paper Covers Rock greeting card collections. When the owners decided to open a holiday guest studio, they commissioned Rachel to design two large scale collages to adorn the walls.
Henri London
In 2018, Rachel was commissioned to produce a series of collages using offcuts of fabric from the Henri London clothing collections. The collages were then exhibited in the shop located on Hackney Road, East London.
GWS Decorators – 30th Birthday Card
Having spotted the Paper Covers Rock greeting cards at Edinburgh’s Dovecot Studios, Fiona McLeod, the owner of GWS Decorators, selected ‘Design 02 Bold’ as the card she wished to send to all her customers and contacts to celebrate the company’s 30th Anniversary.
Folklore – Christmas Cards
Rachel was commissioned by an interior and lifestyle store called Folklore, once located on Upper Street, Islington, to design a collection of Christmas cards. The designs were simple collaged snowflakes in a minimal and muted colour palette, in keeping with the aesthetic of the shop.
